Invictus

Image
Invictus By William Ernest Henley “Out of the night that covers me,      Black as the Pit from pole to pole,    I thank whatever gods may be      For my unconquerable soul.    In the fell clutch of circumstance    I have not winced nor cried aloud.    Under the bludgeonings of chance      My head is bloody, but unbowed.    Beyond this place of wrath and tears      Looms but the Horror of the shade,  And yet the menace of the years      Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.    It matters not how strait the gate,      How charged with punishments the scroll,    I am the master of my fate:   I am the captain of my soul.” When I was locked up in Riker's Island years ago, I read Nelson Mandela’s autobiography. One quote from his gripping, incredible story—a lawyer who was incarcerated for 27 years and then became president o...

The Best Ways to Learn

Image
The Best Ways to Learn The journey towards success is seldom a straight line. Life's path is filled with ups and downs, but there are tools and strategies we can adopt to smooth out the ride. I’ve often discussed these ideas at speaking events and on my old YouTube channel. Since my incarceration, this understanding has become even more valuable to me and to those I’ve shared it with, particularly those focused on personal growth and development. There are three primary ways to learn: 1. Learning from Your Own Mistakes Most people learn this way: they dive into an endeavor without preparation or study, make mistakes, and learn not to repeat them. For instance, imagine running on a path and tripping into a hole. The next time you run that path, you'll know to avoid the hole. While this method is slow and often painful, it at least involves taking action and persevering despite setbacks. However, the depth of the hole (and the severity of your injuries) can vary. 2. Learning fr...

True Self

Image
True Self Today, I experienced another setback in my fight for freedom. Surprisingly, I find myself at peace. The realization that I might have to spend more time incarcerated is frustrating, but it’s essential to recognize that challenging situations test your true identity. In these moments, it’s crucial to remember who you are. The world, and sometimes the entire universe, will try to label you, defining who and what you are. But you must resist accepting those labels, especially the negative ones. Likewise, you shouldn’t let praise inflate your ego. When someone tells you that you’re amazing or beautiful, it’s okay to acknowledge the compliment, but it’s essential not to internalize it. True self-worth comes from within, not from external validation. Accepting compliments without letting them define you keeps you humble. Relying on others’ opinions to shape your self-image can be dangerous. People often have their own agendas; negative labels can be intended to hurt or persecute yo...

Freedom is a MINDSET

The Power of Prayer and Gratitude Today, I want to share a personal story about the transformative power of prayer and gratitude. I’ve been wrongfully incarcerated for some time now, and last night, like every night, I prayed. I expressed my thankfulness for all the blessings God has given me. However, last night was different. Instead of just asking for forgiveness and praying for the protection and love of my children, I asked for something specific: bail. I asked to be released from jail. Despite the concrete floors and the presence of another inmate in the bunk below, I knelt down to pray. It didn’t matter if it looked strange; I was determined to pray. My attorney had told me I had a 0% chance of getting bail. But, as we went to court this morning, something extraordinary happened. Arguments were made, and to everyone’s astonishment, the judge reduced my bail from $1.845 million to $1,000. My attorney was shocked, mouthing “wow” to me as the judge made the decision. I was overwhel...

Challenges of the Justice System

Image
The Inherent Challenges of the Justice System The justice system, by its very nature, is not designed to create win-win situations. It operates within a framework that often focuses on punitive measures rather than restorative or rehabilitative outcomes. This framework can be particularly problematic in complex cases involving financial and business disputes, such as Erin's. Erin's Story: A Case of Misjudgment Erin's Goal : Erin's primary objective is to regain his freedom, reunite with his loved ones, and pursue the business ideas he has been developing while incarcerated. His dedication to these goals underscores his commitment to not only securing a future for his family, but also making amends with his investors, many of whom were close friends caught in the crossfire of his legal complications.  Business Ambitions : During his time in prison, Erin has been meticulously planning multiple business ventures aimed at providing financial stability for his family and rep...
